Jesuit contributions to the Cadiz chorography before 1596: an ongoing investigation.
Idea: Cadiz is the only Spanish city whose population increased by 748% between 1591 and 1693. How can we ignore the previous path of such extraordinary growth? The location of a map of Cádiz "around 1564" in the National Library of France (BnF), from the current chorographic knowledge is promising: it could be the second oldest plane of the city. For greater penetration of the "Painting of the Island" the Jesuit plant is contrasted with another view of a monarchical nature (Wyngaerde, 1567). The graphic material offers a renewed vision of the maritime republic, a small contribution to the topographical, social and defensive knowledge of one of the busiest cities of the Modern Age.
